Yesterday was a glorious day! The sky was blue, the wind was warm, and it was a great day to go walk Water St. and check out the Harbourfront to see the Atlantic Ocean and the many ships there. Spring was in the air!

I was gone for hours! I would walk a bit, then find a place to sit to soak up the atmosphere, then move to the next area. It was awesome after not doing it for a few months, and I am thankful the weather cooperated. My soul needed that…

You will find above a picture I took of St. John’s Harbour, with Cabot Tower on the left at the top of the mountain. What you can’t see in this picture is the Narrows, where ships pass to get to the harbour, but it is there!

Below, I share a couple of pictures of the backyard and all the snow we still have, but it is receding, as I took them on my way out.

 

The snow is slowly melting, thank goodness! It was wonderful to get outside and walk around and not worry about getting around snow banks. I went downtown for a walk on Water St and came back through Harbourside Drive to see the boats.

This is one of the ships I saw, and I love the new colours! This is the Ben Viking, which is a high ice-classed AHTS vessel capable of operations in harsh environment offshore regions, as well as Arctic/Sub-Arctic operations. It can handle the North Atlantic!

This is another ship I saw yesterday: This is a Coast Guard Ship, the Leonard J Cowley. I love how they look.

It is a busy place! The list does change from day to day as ships come and go from our Harbour. I even sit by the Convection Center and watch the Cargo ships get loaded, if one is in while I am there.

This is one of the areas I love about St. John’s the most – Water St and its Harbour. This view always makes me feel so grateful to live here. Every time the bus goes down Barter’s Hill, and I see Cabot Tower and a view of the Narrows, I get so excited knowing I will shortly get to soak up the awesome atmosphere the area has. It is a mix of old and new, but the view is what gets me with the smell of the salty air. There is no place like home.

I am having a great week so far, though I have to admit I have been a bit lazy, spending hours watching YouTube videos. I’ve been watching quite a few videos of our Prime Minister, Mark Carney, in between true crime videos. While I have been typing this post, I have this video going in the background…I am so proud of the work he is doing for Canada and just the person he has shown himself to be. We are “Canada Strong”, as he says.

I am preparing myself for the flashbacks I usually get this time of year when St. Patrick’s Day comes, as it always falls on the 17th, which will be the 35th anniversary of the house fire I had. Hard to believe it has been that long, and yet, I still can’t control the flashbacks that come when my mind recognizes the date. I am hoping to change that this year, we will see!

After I left downtown yesterday, I went shopping and noticed all the St. Patrick’s Day items for sale, as Newfoundland & Labrador celebrates the day here with numerous events throughout the week, as noted in this link. St. Patrick’s Day in Newfoundland ⋆ Destination St. John’s

I haven’t celebrated the day for many years, but I think this year I just might take the day and celebrate that I am still here! I survived that day, and I have survived many other issues since, so I want to celebrate my life and the fact that I am still here, on my own two feet! I plan on celebrating as much as I can this year.

Hubby and I have been planning our summer this week, too. He has to get his vacation days in next month, and with our tax refund coming soon, I want to book things as early as I can to ensure our plans will work out. I took off by myself the past couple of years to visit family on the Mainland, so we decided this year we would go somewhere together, just don’t know where yet! I am sure it will work out.

My 60th birthday is about a month away. A new decade for me, and I am excited to see what it brings me. I look forward to what I can continue to do, rather than focus on what I can’t. I have ambitious plans for this year, and so far, it has been fantastic!
