As many of you know, I’m a huge fan of the videos created by Meandering Newfoundlander — and this latest one highlights one of my absolute favourite places: Ferryland. I haven’t been there in a long time, but I have no doubt I will at one point.

I never tire of the breathtaking scenery of this Province, and these videos capture it so beautifully. I hope you like it!

“Today I went back in time.

I decided to ride my Gold Wing from the chaotic noise of the modern city of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, to a place that is 400 years in the past. I followed the Southern Shore to Ferryland to visit the Colony of Avalon and walk on a cobblestone road built in 1621.

I toured the dig site and even got to witness a couple of staff members performing a dig. They were kind enough to let me film and even showed me a new “find” from that day.

I ventured inside to have a look at the significant display of artifacts from the 1600s. I purposely kept those clips short to “force” you to have to check it out for yourself.

From there I visited the historic and rugged Ferryland Lighthouse where I struggled to catch my breath from the views and the gusts of wind.

The staff at the Colony of Avalon were absolutely amazing. I encourage you to head that way for a visit and take in some nice Newfoundland history.
