The Emotional Toll
The Emotional Toll of a Vandalized Home
Every box opened.
Every belonging broken.
Every memory scattered.
Clothes torn.
Pictures shattered.
Furniture destroyed.
Everything of value — gone.
It’s more than a mess.
It’s a loss you have to relive.
Be kind to yourself.
Healing takes time.

Lorrie, this is heartbreaking to read. The way you describe the loss shows just how deep it goes, and your reminder to be kind to yourself is exactly right.
Thank you for your comments, Kymber.
This past week has been heavy — being surrounded by that level of destruction day after day takes a toll. But bringing even a little order back into the space helps me keep moving forward.
Once we finish packing up what’s left, a junk company will come in and clear everything out of the house. Every room already has boxes filled with the things we’re keeping or passing along to other family members. It’s slow, painful work, but it’s getting done.
I hope all is well in your world!
