It has been a great time these past few weeks! I have spent some time still recovering from the fall I had one night, but the bruises are finally fading away. No more black eye, but I still have a bit of a bump on my forehead. It will go away in time. I’ve been feeling pretty good, though a bit sore.
I took this past week off and basically didn’t do much, other than an errand here and there. I did have a Bone Density Scan done on Monday past and am waiting on the results. I had one done in 2007 when I was living in Mississauga, Ontario, that didn’t show any issues, and I expect the same this time. Time will tell!
I’ve been eagerly preparing for our upcoming trip to Alberta—just over a week away now! My brother and I will be travelling from here, while our sister is coming in from Ontario. We’re all meeting up to visit our mom, who now lives there with another one of our siblings. It’ll be the first time all of us have been together in nearly 15 years, and I truly can’t wait.
This reunion means so much to me, and I’m counting down the days! I haven’t seen my Mom since the summer of 2019, so I am eager to see her in person, rather than through video calls. It is a short trip, but it will be an emotional one for me. I am ready for it…
Hubby was off all last week, and he did a few solo trips: one on his bike and another on the Trails, which he recorded for me on his GoPro. I am working on the videos, trying to shorten them, as the full one is 1 hour and 44 minutes long. The other video is about an hour. I’ll do another post for that, as well as the dinosaur park we went to.
We also spent some time walking different trails, one notable one being our trek to the Mt. Scio Hill Top. That trek was mostly “up” for me, and it definitely tested my endurance! All in all, we spent almost 4 hours roaming the Hill.
Mt. Scio Hill Top is located in St. John’s, Newfoundland, just northwest of the city centre, not far from the Avalon Mall. The hill itself is part of the scenic Mount Scio area, known for its lush greenery and a network of walking and biking trails. There are even Goats! When you make it to the top, you’re rewarded with panoramic views of the city and the surrounding landscape — a real treat after the uphill climb. O’Brien’s Farm is located there.
The trails around Mt. Scio can lead to several beautiful spots. Heading west, you can explore the Pippy Park area, with its wide open fields and wooded sections. To the south, the trails descend towards Long Pond, a quiet place ideal for birdwatching or a peaceful stroll along the water’s edge. Long Pond is where hubby and I go fishing! If you continue north, you can eventually connect to the St. John’s Botanical Garden, a wonderful spot for plant enthusiasts and anyone looking to enjoy a tranquil escape.
All in all, Mt. Scio Hill Top acts as a central point for a variety of nature adventures. Whether you want to keep trekking, enjoy a bit of birdwatching, or simply catch your breath and take in the view, it’s a rewarding stop. For me, making it up there was an accomplishment — proof that with a little persistence, you can reach new heights, quite literally! It was awesome!
I put together a little Slideshow for you to view below of the many views I had during our trek that I hope you enjoy!
