I am sharing today another fantastic video from Meandering Newfoundlander, which he recently posted. I love Cape Spear: the sights and the sounds of the ocean all around. You can feel the history when you are there, just like you do on Signal Hill.

I am excited about my next visit to this awesome place myself, but until then, I enjoy it through videos like this one.

“Today I visited Cape Spear to take in some of its amazing scenery and history. This video will take you around the historic Cape Spear, showing the amazing views, while taking you on a journey into the history that shaped the most eastern point in North America. During World War 2, Cape Spear was fortified to protect St. John’s Harbour from the imminent threat of German U-boats. Troops were stationed here to watch the horizon. I will also take you to the ingenious “decoy site” where the military created a dummy fortification to draw the Germans’ attention away from the fortified Cape Spear. And, it wouldn’t be a hike along the East Coast Trail without taking a moment to pause, reflect and enjoy the sounds and sights while sipping on a freshly boiled coffee.

All videos from my drone were taken outside of Cape Spear boundaries. I launched from the East Coast Trail before entering Cape Spear and remained over the water the entire flight, respecting the Parks Canada rules.”
