Spring is Coming to Newfoundland & Labrador by Stella Reddy

Oh, I feel it now – that shift in the air,
that whisper of warmth that says winter, beware.
The ice doesn’t know it yet, stubborn and grey,
but spring has made plans, and she’s coming this way.
Here in this place where the cold holds on tight,
where the wind off the ocean can cut like a bite,
we know what it means when the light starts to stay –
it’s not just a season, it’s hope on display.
I step outside early, I lift up my face,
and I soak in this moment, this beautiful space.
Not yesterday’s storms, not tomorrow’s unknown –
just right now, this morning, this light being shown.
The birds are returning, the snowbanks are thinning,
and something inside me keeps quietly grinning.
Because I have learned, through the hard and the cold,
that the warmth always comes – and that story is gold.
This rock that I live on, this wild, rugged shore,
has weathered far worse and kept giving us more.
And me? I have too. I have thawed, I have grown,
I have bloomed in the seasons I thought I’d outgrown.
So bring on the green, bring the mud and the thaw,
bring the icebergs that drift with their beauty and awe.
Bring the smell of the earth waking up from its sleep –
bring every good moment I’m learning to keep.
Spring is coming to Newfoundland, friends – can you feel it?
That joy in your chest? Don’t you dare try to conceal it!
We earned every ray of that warm golden sun.
Now breathe it in, live it – this moment has begun.
