“The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” By Gordon Lightfoot

Gordon Lightfoot “was a Canadian singer-songwriter who achieved worldwide success and helped define the singer-songwriter era of the 1970s. Widely considered one of Canada’s greatest songwriters, he had numerous gold and platinum albums, and his songs have been covered by many of the world’s most renowned musical artists.

Lightfoot’s biographer Nicholas Jennings wrote, “His name is synonymous with timeless songs about trains and shipwrecks, rivers and highways, lovers and loneliness.”

This is the story of the Cargo ship, Edmund Fitzgerald, that went down in a storm on Lake Superior on November 10, 1975, with the entire crew of 29 men. It is a heartbreaking story, but one Gordon Lightfoot told in this song very well.

Have a listen and I hope you like it! Let me know if you heard this song before…
