Signal Hill National Historic Site of Canada, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador

Last week, my hubby and I enjoyed a Staycation where we played tourists in our own city, exploring some of our favourite attractions right here in St. John’s. Since 2021, it’s become a summer tradition for us to hop aboard the Hop On, Hop Off Bus Tour, which takes you to all the must-see spots like Signal Hill and Cape Spear, as well as local gems like The Rooms, downtown, and, of course, the colourful Jellybean Row. It’s such a fun and convenient way for locals to see the sights—no stress about parking!

On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, we made our way up to Signal Hill, and as you’ll see in the many photos below, it was a gorgeous sunny day with temperatures around 22°C. There was barely a breeze, but the fog put on quite the show! We are used to the Fog here! The view of the Atlantic was completely hidden beneath a thick blanket of fog. Thankfully, we were high enough up to enjoy the sunshine above it all!

Hubby and I spent a few hours walking some of the Trails there and taking in Cabot Tower, which stands above it all, which was built in 1900. Did you know that St. John’s is the OLDEST City in North America and that the first transatlantic voice transmission came from here by Guglielmo Marconi in 1920? Signal Hill is also a National Historic Site of Canada, one of many we have here in NL. There is a lot of history on this Island located on the East Coast of Canada!

The views are spectacular! On a clear day, you can usually look way out over the Atlantic Ocean, as you can see the view of the City on the other side.

I love this City and especially enjoy exploring all it offers, especially the many sights! I do LOVE where I live, Fog and all! Enjoy the photos below!
