When Narcissists Take Over the Workplace
Narcissists don’t just show up in personal relationships — they thrive in workplaces too. From co-workers to customers! I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with a customer, a tenant, in an apartment building where I worked.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get away as I also lived there, but once all their legal applications were over in January 2020, I was free to leave, which we did. Best decision ever! The public humiliation, smear campaigns, and doxxing… it was quite a bit to endure, but I did for the past 9 years.
Education, with therapy, was the key for me, as once I learned the toxic traits I was exposed to, I was able to start healing from the experience.
As Spot the Narcissist explains, toxic bosses, coworkers, and customers use gaslighting, favouritism, and humiliation to keep control. They’ll take credit for your work, isolate you from colleagues, and chip away at your confidence until the environment feels suffocating.
But recognizing these tactics is the first step toward reclaiming your power. If you’ve ever felt drained, silenced, or second-guessed yourself at work, know that it isn’t weakness — it’s the impact of manipulation.
Awareness brings clarity, and clarity restores strength.
Workplace bullying by narcissists is not a reflection of your worth. It’s a reflection of their fear of accountability. By naming these behaviours, we take back our voice and remind ourselves — and each other — that creativity, confidence, and dignity belong to us, not to those who try to control them.
