I am back again after a week roaming Alberta’s open countryside—and honestly, the vibrant prairie greens are even more captivating in person. There’s a calm, rooted feeling out there; every rolling field feels like its own peaceful world, and I truly recommend a prairie road trip to soak it in.
This escape wasn’t about sightseeing, so I only snapped a few photos. Still, we squeezed in some classic Red Deer stops—Heritage Ranch, Fort Normandeau, and ducked into a few local Shopping Malls. One afternoon, we drove out to Sylvan Lake and found a sunny patio for lunch. Another day, we grabbed takeout chicken and took them to Heritage Park for a relaxed picnic. At one point, I stood for a long while by the Red Deer River, letting the breeze and quiet carry the afternoon.
If you get the chance, Alberta’s prairies are grounding, lush, and welcoming—a perfect antidote to busy days.

The past few days were a real emotional journey—getting together with my Mom and all my siblings for the first time in 11 years was a lot to process, but honestly, I’m feeling fantastic. Spending time with my siblings was wonderful, and seeing my Mother again made it completely worthwhile.
I put some of my new communication skills to the test, setting boundaries and letting myself be a bit vulnerable. Sure, there were a few intense moments now and then, but nothing major. I managed to keep clear of any drama; I went with the simple goal of being with my Mother, and I’m grateful I stuck to that. Every relaxed hour with my brother and sisters felt like a welcome bonus.
I was happy to get back home yesterday morning, though. I missed my hubby! Watching the sunrise paint the skies over Newfoundland from the plane was breathtaking—so beautiful I just had to snap a picture.
I’m slowing down for a couple of days to recover from all the roaming—and to catch up on some much-needed sleep. My body’s a little sore, but honestly, it was worth every step. I have wonderful memories of living in each moment of the past week with my family that will sustain me until the next time.
Now comes the fun part: daydreaming and planning next year’s adventure!
