Adventure, Community, and World Reflections
My Awesome Weekend
What a weekend! The photo above captures the stunning Rennie’s River on Saturday, June 22, 2025, as my hubby and I embarked on a leisurely adventure along the Rennie’s River Trail. This beautiful 2.9-kilometre pathway winds from Quidi Vidi Lake to Long Pond in Pippy Park, offering plenty of scenic spots to pause and take in the view—and, thankfully, lots of benches for restful breaks. I’m not ashamed to admit I made frequent stops to rest my legs and back, but that’s all part of the journey for me. If it takes twenty breaks to enjoy something I love, so be it!
We spent about two and a half hours strolling from the Prince Phillip Parkway to Kenna’s Hill, and at times, it felt like we were deep in the woods. The trail was peaceful, beautiful, and a perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon, especially since it had been years since I’d walked its full length.
Pedestrian Mall Reopening: Anticipation in St. John’s
I’m already looking forward to this coming weekend! The Pedestrian Mall is reopening on Water Street and Duckworth Street, transforming downtown St. John’s into a vibrant, car-free zone for the summer. With sections closed to vehicles, there’s more space for pedestrians, outdoor patios, and local shops. The official kickoff is Thursday, June 26th—and I’ll be there!
I adore downtown St. John’s and can’t wait for all the summer events and free concerts that are just around the corner. There’s always something exciting happening here, and I try to attend as many as I can.
Reflections on World Events
It’s hard not to feel heartbroken by the news these days. The world can be a difficult place, and I often find myself avoiding the headlines to protect my peace. The situation in the US, in particular, is deeply troubling—seeing videos of people being mistreated or detained by authorities is distressing. While I’m glad these incidents are being documented, it’s disheartening to witness such cruelty.
I worry that the US is sliding toward authoritarianism under the current administration. It’s shocking to see Congress allow such behaviour to continue unchecked. Though some leaders may act as if they rule the world, it’s clear that other nations are not willing to follow along. I believe the American people will eventually demand change, especially as international tensions rise and promises are being broken. Trump claimed “no more wars,” yet, here they are…
Canada’s Positive Momentum
On a brighter note, I read today that Prime Minister Carney is in Brussels to sign an agreement with the EU, then heading to the Netherlands for the NATO Summit. It’s exciting to see Canada strengthening its ties with international partners and reducing reliance on the US, especially given current circumstances. I trust that our Prime Minister will continue to act in the best interests of Canadians.
Canada is making significant strides, from passing the Interprovincial Trade Agreement to expanding trade with countries like Spain—did you know Newfoundland just shipped its first batch of fresh lobster to Spain by air? And in British Columbia, the Shell-led LNG Canada facility has produced its first liquefied natural gas for export. From coast to coast, Canada is forging new partnerships and sharing our abundant natural resources with the world.

Looking Forward with Hope
All in all, I’m grateful for the direction Canada is heading and thankful that our government stands apart from the chaos elsewhere. I am excited to see what adventures Canada gets to go on!
With that, I’m off to the grocery store to stock up and to enjoy another beautiful day. I choose to live in hope, always, that things will work out as they should…
